Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has recommended the dissolution of parliament. In a previous meeting, Prime
Minister Oli had recommended to the President to issue an ordinance (an uninformed move) on the
Constitutional Council without even informing the ministers.The provision in the constitution of Nepal regarding
the dissolution of parliament is not clear. In constitution of Nepal, 2072: It states that Article 85:
The Constitution states that the term of the House of Representatives shall be five years, except in the case
of those who have already been dissolved in accordance with this Constitution.
In the Article 76, Sub-clause 7 under 5 of the constitution states that the if Prime Minister fails to get a vote of confidence or is unable to appoint Prime Minister, the President, on the recommendation of the
Prime Minister, will dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) and set a date for the next election within six months.
