The vice president of CPN Maoist Center Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been arrested.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Basant Kunwar informed that Mahara was arrested from Kapilvastu.

A high-level inquiry commission formed to investigate smuggling had recommended that Mahara be prosecuted. The Ministry of Home Affairs instructed the police to take action accordingly.
Earlier, the Commission had also taken a statement from Mahara. His son Rahul Mahara is in custody pending trial in the case of gold smuggling through electronic cigarette (Vape).

Mahara was brought to Kathmandu from Gautam Buddha Airport located at Bhairahawa in Rupandehi. He was brought to Kathmandu by Eti Airlines flight number YT-892 at 10:27 in the morning.
