LAHAN, July 18: The Janakpur-Jayanagar Railway has inaugurated today. The train set for Janakpur-Jayanagar, which has been stalled since September, has tested at a speed of 120 kilometers per hour on Sunday.
Guru Bhattarai, general manager of Nepal Railway Company, said that the speed test was being carried out on the railway link before the train officially started operating. “Speed and certification of the railway link is underway,” he said. According to General Manager Bhattarai, speed tests will be done by a diesel locomotive of the East Central Railway of India. He said that the security around the railway track will be tightened as the speed of the train will be 120 km per hour during the speed test.
The trial was started in September last year to run the Jayanagar-Janakpur railway on broad gauge. Nearly six years after the closure of the narrow gauge train, the broad gauge train is being operated, which is the first in the history of Nepal.
